Conservation Scientist British Museum Contract: Fixed-term for six months in the first instance UKP 21,245 - UKP23,902 pa (depending on experience) The British Museum is currently recruiting for a Conservation Scientist to work within the Department of Conservation and Scientific Research. This post will include responsibility for undertaking materials testing and carrying out environmental monitoring duties. It will also involve offering technical assistance to promote best practices throughout the Museum for the preservation and conservation of the collections. In addition, you will use a variety of scientific techniques to undertake research, analytical studies and other investigations related to the conservation and preservation of the collections of the British Museum. You will have a strong science background and interest in or experience of working in museum conservation science and/or preventive conservation. You will have an interest in the deterioration and conservation of historical and archaeological artefacts, with a particular emphasis on the impact of environmental factors on the preservation of such objects. You will ideally have experience in assessing and monitoring all aspects of environmental conditions (including light, relative humidity, temperature, vibration, dust and pollutant gas/air monitoring, etc), in undertaking materials testing and in delivering a preventive conservation strategy. Experience in undertaking conservation science-based research projects would be an advantage.
