Conservator
Brought to Life Project
Science Museum

UKP22,970 per annum pro rata
plus UKP1,000 Regional Weighting Allowance

7 month contract, 3 days per week, starting June 2009

The Science Museum is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic object
conservator to work on objects selected from the Wellcome Trust's
and Science Museum's medical collections held by the Science Museum
in London, for the 'Brought to Life' digitisation project.

We are looking for a confident, outgoing professional to provide
high quality interventive conservation, to enable the diverse nature
of the Wellcome collections to be photographed.

You will be working in conservation studios at two sites--one in the
Science Museum, South Kensington and the other at Blythe House, the
Science Museum's storage facility at Olympia.

The work will provide opportunities to develop excellent working
relationships with stakeholders. You will work effectively
independently or in a team and always promote high conservation
standards.

You must have a relevant and recognised object conservation
qualification (first degree) or equivalent practical experience and
knowledge, supported by demonstrable skills in interventive museum
object conservation across a broad spectrum of materials and
conditions.

Experience of planning and implementing conservation work, working
to deadlines and practical expertise in risk assessment and COSHH
will be essential. The ability to use collections database (Mimsy
XG) and image manipulation software is highly desirable.

You must have good team working skills to work with the digitisation
team, a systematic approach to work planning and be able to work
independently on this project with minimal supervision.

You should be available to start from June 2009.
