Subject: Seminar on conservation of outdoor metal sculpture
Outdoor Metal Sculpture Seminar New York Conservation Foundation Week 1 in New York City August 10-15, 2009 Week 2 at Princeton University August 17-21, 2009 During August 10-21, 2009 the New York Conservation Foundation (NYCF) <URL:http://www.nycf.org> will again convene an introductory seminar on the conservation of outdoor metal sculpture. Our seminar covers outdoor sculpture in copper, bronze, iron, steel, aluminum, including painted metals. Sculpture conservator John Scott leads together with expert colleagues. The seminar comprises two one-week modules, and will be conducted in English. During six days August 10-15, 2009 we will complete five morning outdoor field examination tours, and five afternoons of indoor lecture-discussions, and one full day of hands-on outdoor field exercise. Each registrant must prepare in advance, bring to the seminar, and present in the seminar a short relevant powerpoint presentation, which will then be archived with NYCF for future study. Completion of this first seminar week is required for participation in the second week field exercise. During five days August 17-21, 2009 we will complete five days of hands-on field exercises in conservation of outdoor sculptures. The exercises comprise practical examination, documentation, planning, mobilization and treatment, and reporting. Logistics require us to limit the number of registrants for this second week. Lunch is provided on every seminar day during both weeks. Equipment, supplies, and any necessary round trip transportation outside NYC are provided during the field exercises. Registration for 2009 is unchanged from 2008 at USD $1250 per week. Conservation students, interns and apprentices may apply to NYCF for partial subsidy. All participants are separately responsible for their own travel, room, board and insurances.
