Subject: Call for papers--NZCCM National Conference
The New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Material (NZCCM) National Conference 2009 Conservation in Public Auckland, New Zealand October 21-23-2009 The New Zealand Conservators of Cultural Material will be holding its next National Conference in Auckland. The intention of the conference is to examine the public face of conservation and how the profession can remain relevant in a rapidly changing world. If we are to continue to preserve our material culture, how can we promote a better understanding of why it should be done and how this might be achieved? The conference will provide a forum for discussion about conservation in New Zealand, its past and its future. It will present an opportunity to challenge current practices and allow meaningful debate amongst the public and heritage sector. Proposals are invited for presentations that address the topic and may include: How conservation has changed, new approaches to conservation and historical perspectives, contemporary problems and contemporary solutions, conservation treatments, research or preventive approaches. We also welcome artists, curators, registrars and people in other arts and museum related fields to present a paper related to their experience and perception of conservation. Proposals for workshops may also be considered. Abstracts up to 300 words in length should be submitted by 31 May 2009. Speakers will be notified by 31 June 2009 if their submissions have been accepted.
