Introduction to Circulating Collections Book Repair Workshop
Huntington Library, May 7-8, 2009
9am-4pm

This two day workshop will introduce participants to basic book
repair for circulating or general collections.

Thursday, day one:  Book nomenclature and common types of damage,
hinge tightening, hinge repair, page replacement, and tipping-in
loose pages. Friday, day two: Introduction to adhesives, page
mending, hinging-in loose pages, book repair selection and decision
making, and how to set up a repair station. All participants will
receive a set of tools necessary to complete the treatments covered
in the workshop.

Who should attend: Library, archives, and other repository staff who
have responsibility for the preservation of circulating collections.
Particularly appropriate for staff from institutions looking to set
up a basic book repair station for their facility.

This program will be held in the Conservation Lab of the Huntington

Limited enrollment: Workshop is limited to the first 15 registrants

Registration is $150.00.

Instructors:

    Holly Moore is the Rare Books and Bound Manuscripts Conservator
    for the Huntington Library. She has a private practice in the
    Los Angeles area providing conservation services to
    institutions.

    Kristen St.John is the Collections Conservator for the UCLA
    Library. She has led several workshops for LAPNet and other
    organizations in the care and repair of library and archival
    materials.

LAPNet was established in January 1987 to meet the preservation
needs of librarians, conservators, archivists and records managers
in Los Angeles City and County. It is managed by a Steering
Committee drawn from libraries and other record repositories. LAPNet
aims to serve as a forum of information exchange and foster the
development of preservation and cooperative programs among all the
libraries in the area, irrespective of their type or size.  Check
