The talk will describe the process of making a two-metre high
reconstruction, based on the Cimabue crucifix from Arezzo, using as
far as possible, historically authentic materials and techniques.
Instances where new insights were afforded into early Italian
painting technique will be discussed as well as how frequent
reference to Cennino's Libro dell'Arte led to the idea for a
project, which has been running since July 2008, to produce a new
translation and edition of the book. The progress of the project
will be reported as well as the plans for its completion.
