Felt as cushioning material

We've previously used felt to provide a barrier between an object
and the surface it sits on, to stop scratches, marking etc.  With an
increase in moths, and plenty of pests around anyway, will the felt
attract insects?  Is there another material that would cushion well,
be conservation friendly, and relatively cheap?
