Subject: Cathodic reduction of silver corrosion products
As posted to the Conservation DistList Instance: 21:59 Saturday, May 3, 2008 ("Electrolytic cathodic reduction"), I have been carrying out an indoor air corrosivity determination in the museum where I work. The electrolytic reduction of the corrosion products on the probes was done according to the ASTM B-825 standard. The electrolyte used is KCl 0,1 M; and a saturated calomel electrode as reference. The silver coupons show two and possibly more reduction steps. It would be of interest to assign them to specific compounds, even if it is not essential for corrosivity category calculations. I would like to know if data are available, on reduction potentials of silver corrosion compounds in this electrolyte. I would greatly appreciate any reference, Diana Hamann Museo Historico Provincial de Rosario Argentina *** Conservation DistList Instance 22:46 Distributed: Friday, February 13, 2009 Message Id: cdl-22-46-026 ***Received on Monday, 9 February, 2009
