The New York Academy of Medicine's Gladys Brooks Book and Paper
Conservation Laboratory seeks a Full Time Conservation Assistant to
work in the Gladys Brooks Conservation Laboratory.

The Preservation Department is responsible for all aspects of
preservation in NYAM's Library, including exhibition preparation,
collections maintenance, cooperative preservation activities, as
well as conservation.

The Conservation Assistant will have the following duties and
responsibilities:

    Perform basic conservation treatment on paper, leather and cloth
    bindings

    Construct enclosures for books, manuscripts and other library
    materials from the library's rare book collection and the
    general collection

    Prepare condition reports, create photographic and written
    documentation of treatments

    Assist, as needed, with exhibition preparation and installation,
    matting, reframing, tours of the laboratory, surveys and
    environmental monitoring

The successful candidate must possess the following minimum
qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree

    Significant prior experience in bookbinding, book repair and
    book conservation via apprenticeship and/or working experience
    in a library setting required

    Excellent hand skills and good time management are necessary
