Seminar on Managing Material Change
London
10-11 December 2007

You are invited to a 2-day symposium to introduce the new Science
and Heritage Programme, funded by the AHRC/EPSRC, which aims to
overcome the shortage of funding for heritage science in the UK and
to build capacity and cohesion in the sector. This two-day
symposium, Managing Material Change, will be held on 10-11 December
2007, at Jeffrey Hall, Institute of Education, Bedford Way, London.

Papers cover:

Benchmarks for measuring physical changes to buildings,
    collections and sites

Human effects on sites, buildings and collections

How the environment causes physical change to the heritage

Extreme social and environmental impacts on cultural heritage
    materials and assemblies

Conservation solutions for the 21st century

The aims of the symposium are:

To demonstrate that both humanities and science-based research
inform our knowledge of material change

To identify research themes around material change that include
    all cultural heritage types

To provide a forum where researchers and end-users of research
    can exchange information

To identify ways of overcoming obstacles to interdisciplinary
    collaboration in heritage science research

To inform the future scope of the AHRC/EPSRC Science and
    Heritage Programme
