Asphalt

I have a large contemporary painting with the thick asphalt layer
applied on the canvas surface. In some areas (mostly centre) the
layer of asphalt has been separated from the canvas, cracked and
some parts have been broken away Any advice or suggestions how to
stabilise cracks and flecking parts of asphalt and the best
adhesives that could attached it back to the canvas surface with no
staining of the surface would be greatly appreciated.
