Fixed Term Assignments
Two positions - 14 weeks

The Royal Ontario Museum is seeking two skilled conservation
technicians with training and experience in textiles for short term
contracts to aid with an insect containment and clean-up project in
textiles storage. The Conservation Technicians will work as a team
under the direction and guidance of the Textile/Costume collection
Technician and Conservation staff, and other contract staff. Duties
will include handling and inspection of textile artifacts and
storage furniture for evidence of pest activity; containment of
areas of pest activity; post-inspection clean-up and modification of
storage furniture; re-housing of artifacts as required; use of
collections database information as needed to support above
activities, and updating of relevant database fields. This position
will be physically demanding, requiring sustained periods of
standing, working on ladders and moderate lifting, with occasional
periods of heavy lifting.

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as Clothing and
    Textiles, Fine Art, Material Culture, History or Anthropology)
    and community college diploma in conservation, OR an acceptable
    equivalent in education and experience.

    Two (2) years of museum experience working with textile and
    costume artifacts.

    Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the theory and practice
    of preventive care of textile/costume artifacts; including
    agents of deterioration, handling, pest monitoring, maintenance
    and storage techniques.

    Excellent team work, organizational, interpersonal, and written
    and oral communication skills.

    Good experience in basic conservation treatment of textile
    objects.

    Good word processing and database experience, especially in
    Microsoft Word and Access.

Salary Grade: $40,623.00 per year
Grade 10
