The Hagley Museum and Library is currently recruiting to fill the
position of Library Conservator, reporting to the Deputy Director
for Library Administration, with conservation planning
responsibilities for the Imprints, Pictorial Collections, and
Archives and Manuscripts Departments.  Recruiting will take place
during the second half of 2007, with the position scheduled to be
filled beginning January 2, 2008.

General Responsibilities:  Propose, implement, and document
conservation treatment of books, manuscripts, and pictorial
materials.  Administer conservation laboratory for treatment of
materials from all library departments, including supervision of
conservation staff, volunteers and interns.   Participate in exhibit
preparation and installation.  Work with library department heads to
develop and carry out comprehensive preservation program and
emergency preparedness planning for library collections including
printed and published works, manuscripts and archives, pictorial and
audio-visual materials.

Requirements:  Demonstrated ability to develop and carry out
restoration and conservation treatment of wide range of library
materials as gained through graduate degree from recognized book and
manuscripts conservation training program plus minimum 2 years'
related experience or equivalent extensive experience in
conservation of library materials.  Knowledge of historic
restoration techniques including historical book structures and
bindings preferred.  Mechanical aptitude for working in all areas of
restoration, ability to lift boxes of books, supervisory skills, and
excellent interpersonal skills required.   Familiarity with
preservation issues and collections management in research libraries
highly desired.
