This is a re-posted position. The deadline for application for the
position of Preservation Librarian is extended to November 30, 2007.

Position Description: The Preservation Librarian reports to the Head
of the Preservation Department. The Preservation Librarian manages
the commercial binding, microfilming and mass deacidification
activities and works with vendors providing these services;
implements proper handling procedures for protection, storage and
transportation of library and archives materials within the Elmer
Holmes Bobst Library, as well as the Library's off-site storage
facilities; works with the Conservation Librarian to address
collection maintenance issues relating to preservation; supervises
full-time and part-time staff; coordinates an environmental
monitoring program for the NYU Libraries; conducts preservation
education sessions for Library staff; acts as liaison to six
departmental libraries; coordinates preservation outreach activities
within the NYU Libraries, including maintenance and administration
of the Preservation Department web page. In addition, the
Preservation Librarian has a collaborative relationship with the
moving image, sound and digital preservation staff and programs;
assists in coordinating the Library's disaster preparedness and
response programs; maintains statistical data and prepares reports
as needed. Other related duties may be assigned.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree in Library and
Information Studies and an advanced certificate in preservation
administration. Experience working in a library, special collection,
or archive environment. Knowledge of book and paper preservation,
standards, ethics and current trends in the field. Experience with
staff supervision and project management. Strong leadership skills.
Strong organization skills. Strong writing and oral communication
skills. Experience developing, designing and/or carrying out
condition surveys and preservation needs assessments preferred.
Knowledge or experience in non-print media preservation desirable.
