The Science Museum in London is seeking a flexible and enthusiastic
object conservator to work on objects selected from the Wellcome
Trust's medical collections held by the Science Museum in London,
for the 'Sickness and Health digitisation' project.

We are looking for a confident, outgoing professional to provide
high quality interventive conservation, to enable the diverse nature
of the Wellcome collections to be photographed.

The post is offered as a 9 month contract working on a part time
basis (18 hours per week), with the possibility of an extension to
12 months.

Salary UKP11,000 per annum (18 hours per week) pro-rata for the 9
month period

The successful candidate will be working at two sites--a temporary
conservation studio in the Science Museum, South Kensington and at
Blythe House, the Science Museum's storage facility at Olympia.

The work will provide opportunities to develop excellent working
relationships with stakeholders. You will work effectively
independently or in a team and always promote high conservation
standards

Applicants must have a relevant and recognised object conservation
qualification (first degree) or equivalent practical experience and
knowledge, supported by demonstrable skills in interventive museum
object conservation across a broad spectrum of materials and
conditions.

Experience of planning and implementing conservation work, working
to deadlines and practical expertise in risk assessment and COSHH
will be essential. The ability to use collections database (Mimsy
XG) and image manipulation software is highly desirable.

The applicant must have good team working skills to work with the
digitisation team, a systematic approach to work planning and be
able to work independently on this project with minimal supervision.
