Retouching Acrylic Paintings Survey
Courtauld Institute of Art - Thesis Project

In support of my final year research project I am doing at the
Courtauld Institute on retouching media for acrylic paintings, I am
sending out this short set of questions to try to get an idea of
what media and methods are currently being employed by conservators
and which materials have been found successful (or unsuccessful.)

I have narrowed down the materials for testing to the following five
products: Lascaux Aquacryl colours, Regalrez, JunFunori, Aquazol
50-200-500 and Golden MSA paints.

The answers to this survey should help me understand what materials
are commonly used and how they are used so that I may focus the
research on what is most practically relevant.

Given the most common types of problems/damages requiring
retouching are: scuff marks dark or dirty marks on the surface
of the painting--the removal of which may cause damage to the
    original paint]; finger makes from handling; surface abrasion;
    and matte or glossy patches,

What methods and materials have you attempted or found
successful in dealing with these types of problems?

In your collection care, have you had the chance to revisit the
work you have done to monitor and assess the long term success
    of these methods/materials?

If you have used any of the materials mentioned above, your
practical input on experiences with them would be greatly
    appreciated.

Please would you be so kind as to copy and paste the questions above
and send your answers to me by email. Feel free to elaborate as
little or as much as you please.

Many thanks for your help!
