Objects Conservator
Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira

Fixed term for 8 months
Closing Date: August 10, 2007

Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira is seeking an experienced Objects
Conservator to prepare collection items for two exhibition

World, and include a wide range of object materials from wood and
metal to ceramics and textiles. A metals specialist is preferred,
but is not essential.

In addition to the treatment of objects for display, the position
covers condition reporting and packing of collection loans,
including a national touring exhibition of Maori artefacts. The
appointee will also participate in collection storage projects, and
conduct in-house staff training in preventive conservation.

Applicants must have a tertiary qualification in objects
conservation and proven relevant work experience. They need a sound
working knowledge of preventive conservation practice, particularly
those aspects affecting the museum display environment. They also
need excellent communication skills, an enthusiastic attitude to
team work and a proven ability to work efficiently with a minimum of
supervision. They must be familiar with conservation treatment of a
wide range of object materials.
