Full time position with Maryland State Government in the Contractual
Job Category. No State-paid benefits

The Maryland Historical Trust is seeking an experienced Contractual
Conservator of archaeological materials at the Jefferson Patterson
Park and Museum, State Museum of Archaeology located in Calvert
County, Maryland.  State of Maryland contractual position for one
year (with possible renewal) with no State paid benefits, salary
$16.57/hour. Position to start on or about July 24, 2007.

The Contractual Conservator will work under the direction of the
Lead Conservator on a wide range of archaeological objects from
marine and terrestrial excavations, probably including iron, copper
alloy, ceramic, glass, leather, stone, and wood.  The Conservator
will examine and document objects, perform analytical tests, prepare
treatment proposals, perform conservation treatments including
mechanical and chemical treatment, package or mount artifacts for
transport, storage or display, and submit full reports of all
activities.  The Conservator must be self-motivating and able to
work on complex projects with minimal supervision, while meeting
deadline and budgetary restraints.

Applicant must have a degree in the conservation of objects from a
recognized conservation degree program, plus an additional
post-graduate year of practical experience in the conservation of
archaeological objects.  Equivalent work-experience of three years
practical conservation of archaeological materials may be accepted
in lieu of a conservation degree.   The applicant must be able to
lift 50 pounds, work on ladders or in crouching positions, must have
experience with taking and processing photographs and must have
experience with computers operating the Windows OS, MS Word, MS
Excel, MS Access, or other equivalent computer software.  The
applicant must be a US citizen or have a currently valid work visa.
Prior training in health and safety, or the use of lifting and
moving equipment will be considered a bonus.
