VPS5.1 - $67,556 + 9% superannuation

This position provides the opportunity for a Senior Conservator to
work in the Textile Conservation Section of the NGV. The NGV is
Australia's oldest public art gallery with two display venues and an
off-site store. The Textile Conservation section undertakes an
extensive programme for the conservation of textiles and costume in
the NGV collections, predominantly for exhibition in dedicated
galleries for Fashion and Textiles at NGV Australia, and NGV.
International, as well as display within permanent collection
galleries of Asian Art, Antiquities and Decorative Arts.

As manager of the Textile Conservation section the role includes the
supervision of staff and overall responsibility for the work
programme. The programme of work includes the technical examination,
conservation treatment and display of textiles and costume in the
NGV collections; project co-ordination, managing programmes for the
preventive conservation of the collection, and the provision of
technical advice on handling, transport, and storage of textile
items. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in
departmental and collection management meetings, contributing to the
overall management of conservation programs at the NGV. Requirements
include:

    *   A tertiary degree in the conservation of cultural materials,
        specialising in textile conservation

    *   Extensive and wide-ranging experience in the complex
        treatment of textiles and costume

    *   Extensive knowledge of the materials and methods of
        manufacture of a wide range of textiles and costume,
        including knowledge of various periods, styles and
        construction methods

    *   Demonstrated management experience and well-developed
        leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
