Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Librarian of
Houghton Library for Collections, the incumbent: Plans and manages
the Houghton Library conservation/preservation program. Manages
Conservator for Houghton Library, Houghton conservation room, flow
of materials for preservation reformatting and conservation
treatment; and flow of materials for conservation and preservation
treatment by outside vendors. Coordinates environmental monitoring
and Houghton collections emergency efforts. Develops and updates
Houghton's preservation information resources. Serves as a resource
for Houghton on digital preservation initiatives in HCL and HUL.
Acts as liaison with Weissman Preservation Center for treatment and
housing of library materials. Works with Associate Librarian for
Technical Services and Associate Librarian for Public Services to
address collection management issues relating to preservation. Other
related duties may be assigned. The work associated with this
position is performed primarily in a library setting, occasionally
in a conservation laboratory setting.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills: Basic qualifications:
MLS and/or advanced certificate in preservation administration
required. Three years experience in personnel/program management;
strong knowledge of library preservation, including binding,
reformatting, environmental control, disaster preparedness/response,
and bibliographic control as it relates to preservation; strong
knowledge of the history of bookbinding, printing, codicology, and
papermaking; knowledge of chemistry as it applies to library
materials; adherence to professional ethical practice in
conservation/preservation; knowledge of standard word processing,
spreadsheet, and database software; experience with integrated
library systems and standard bibliographic tools (HOLLIS, OCLC,
RLIN. Additional requirements: Experience in working in a special
collections environment preferred. Knowledge of at least one foreign
language is desirable. Incumbent must be aware of environmental
hazards posed by substances such as solvents and mold, and
appropriate, safe methods of working with such substances.
