The National Archives Assembly and the Guild of Book Workers Potomac
Chapter present "The History of Bookbinding and Book Conservation in
Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia: A Work in Progress" given
by Jana Dambrogio, NARA Conservator and GBW Potomac Chapter
Chairperson.

The Potomac Chapter members compiled information that will describe
the rich history of bookbinding, book conservation, and book arts in
the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Topics will range
from the letters of Thomas Jefferson on the care of his book
collections being transferred to the Library of Congress to current
fine bindings and treatments, and from well-known figures in
bookbinding and conservation such as Peter Waters, Christopher
Clarkson, and Frank Mowery to the accomplishments in the book arts
by recent figures such as Carol Barton. Since the earliest times,
bookbinding and conservation have gone hand in hand in this area;
the tradition is strong and continues today.
