French frame maker

A colleague is trying to identify a French frame maker from the
incomplete label on the reverse of a frame. The painting is by
Albert Maignan and dates to 1880.

The label transcribes as:

    (?)ERNIER (nettoyage de tableaux)
    SUCCESSEUR
    DOREUR SUR BOIS
    ENCADREMENT EN TOUS GENRES
    ............et Meuble
(the rest of the label is missing)

The base of the missing letter is curved and suggests either S, J,
G, O, C or U.

    SERNIER
    JERNIER
    GERNIER
    OERNIER
    CERNIER
    UERNIER

He thinks the name may be Jernier--but searches so far have not
turned up anything.
