Position at Williamstown Art Conservation Center

From: Hugh Glover <hglover>
Date: Wednesday, March 14, 2007
Assistant Frame Conservator
Williamstown Art Conservation Center (WACC)

The Williamstown Art Conservation Center (WACC) is seeking a
conservator of picture frames for a full-time position within the
department of furniture and wood objects.

Duties for the position include the examination, treatment, and
documentation of a wide range of picture frames that are mostly
gilded and of 19th century American origin. Common treatments
address their structure, insecurities and losses of decoration,
bronze overpaint, and the housing for the artwork that can include
glazing and micro-climates.

Experience with basic woodworking techniques, as well as molding and
casting ornament, traditional and non-traditional gilding, solvents
and their safety, analytical methods, frame history, etc., is
preferable but not essential; motivated applicants can receive
training. Collaboration on projects with other departments
(paintings, paper, objects, furniture, and analysis) is common,
requiring the applicant to have good communication and team skills.
A degree from a graduate conservation program is not essential.

WACC is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary regional conservation
facility, located in the Berkshire Hills in northwest Massachusetts.
It serves the conservation needs of 50-plus membership institutions,
and private clients. Within a year it will move to a new
purpose-built conservation/museum facility designed by Tadao Ando,
located on the Clark Art Museum campus.

Salary and title will be commensurate with abilities and experience.
The position includes a generous benefits package.

Applications should include a letter of interest, resume, and
contact information for two references. Send applications to
