The Bodleian Library is seeking a paper or book conservator to join
its Conservation and Collection Care Service. You will be
responsible for planning, managing and implementing a number of high
priority conservation projects, the first of which will be a
collection of 17th century Irish paper manuscripts. As a member of
the conservation team you will also be involved in departmental
activities such as assistance with exhibitions and acting on an
occasional basis as Duty Conservator; providing assistance in
emergencies and advice to library staff and members of the public.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent in paper conservation
and work experience in paper conservation following qualification,
and will either be an accredited conservator or will be planning to
apply for accreditation during this 3 year contract. You should have
knowledge and understanding of the range of library and archive
materials and structures, their historical significance and physical
make-up; an ability to assess deterioration and conservation
priorities for individual items and collections; and knowledge and
practical experience of current preservation and conservation
methods and techniques.
