Subject: Storage of paintings
Our library has inherited a number of very large damaged oil paintings in heavy gilt frames which we are planning to put into long term storage until they can be repaired. Some have glass. We also have several frames without the paintings in them. I have been asked to wrap them to protect them from further damage. What is the recommended material for this? They are very large, some 4 x 6 feet--too large for any packing boxes I have been able to locate. Some have glass. Bubble wrap or corrugated paper, referred to as frame wrapping, or something else seems to be the answer, but I would appreciate advice from anyone on the list with expertise in this area. I am a book conservator. Also, if there is a resource for the recommended materials, and any references I could consult for this information. Thanks in advance. *** Conservation DistList Instance 14:33 Distributed: Monday, December 18, 2000 Message Id: cdl-14-33-024 ***Received on Wednesday, 13 December, 2000
