Preservation Librarian

Responsibilities: Plans, organizes and implements the University
Libraries' Preservation Program, employing a variety of techniques
for preservation and reformatting.  Manages state-funded budget and
grants; supervises conservator, clerk and student assistants.
Participates in planning and implementing New York State Research
Libraries consortial projects, including digitization and mass
deacidification.  Advises library administration on planning and
policies for collection preservation.  Provides preservation and
disaster preparedness education for staff and library users.
Prepares grant proposals.  Works with Circulation staff, Special
Collections and Subject Bibliographers to identify items for
conservation treatment and reformatting.  Coordinates preservation
binding activities with Technical Services staff.  Reports to the
Assistant Director for Collections.  Research, publication and
service to the Libraries and University are expected to satisfy
criteria for continuing appointment and promotion.

Qualifications: Required: Graduate degree in librarianship from an
ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Advanced training
in library conservation/preservation and experience with supervision
and budget management.  Demonstrated oral and written skills,
excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.

Preferred: Familiarity with commercial binding, microform
production, digital imaging and other new technologies.

Terms and Benefits: Twelve month appointment: minimum sick leave and
annual leave at 15 days each per year; health insurance, major
medical or Health Maintenance Organization and dental.  Social
Security coverage.  TIAA/CREF or New York State Teacher's Retirement
available (employee contributes 3%, University contributes 8%).

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.  Minimum of $
34,917.
