Adhesive used in musical instrument

A friend of mine plays the Pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument,
the bamboo pegs have separated from the wooden base of her
instrument. It needs to be stuck back, she says the type of glue is
critical to the sound produced, (I'm totally tone deaf). I guess it
is animal glue. Can anyone confirm this?
