    posted here.  Please respond directly to sender and if of
    general interest post it here as well

Many oil painters desire to paint on quality (cotton rag) paper and
not use primer or gesso. Some do, but most are reluctant to do so as
tradition says that the "oil" will rot the paper. I understand some
recent work has shown old paintings on paper unaffected. Can someone
quote reference to this please?
