Removing pressure sensitive tape

I have recently been very successful in using Wei T'o
deacidification solution #4 (non-spray) in the removal of pressure
sensitive adhesive from an early 1800's document. First I removed
the film using a small heated spatula. Then, instead of using
Toluene or Acetone (etc.), I used the Wei T'o #4 to loosen the
adhesive and then "rolled" it up with a white plastic eraser. I
would moisten an eraser's width of the adhesive using a cotton swab,
then gently "erase" while the adhesive was still damp. This method
worked very well, although I wouldn't recommend it with brittle
paper.
