Dorset Archives Service has a vacancy for a full time Archive
Conservator. This is a new, permanent post in the Preservation
Services Division at Dorset Record Office. The Archive Conservator
will carry out a wide range of conservation and preservation
activities, including remedial treatments for all archive formats,
surveys to establish the service's preservation priorities and
supervision of microfilm and digitisation programmes.

The Preservation Services Division, under the management of the
Senior Archive Conservator, offers all aspects of conservation,
environmental management and reprographics services for the Archives
Service and also for external institutions and private clients. The
Conservation Unit is one of the best-equipped and modern facilities
of its kind in the UK. The Division includes a fully equipped
reprographic unit, including digital imaging and printing equipment,
microfilm production and processing and traditional photographic
processing facilities. The Preservation team is responsible for
implementing preservation policy in all areas of the Archives
Service, including the provision of training and guidance on
document care in all of the Record Office's activities.

The successful applicant will be a qualified conservator with two or
three years experience of carrying out a wide range of treatments
and providing preservation services in an institutional setting or
in the commercial sector. Further advanced technical training and
professional development will be provided for the right person,
including help to achieve PACR accreditation.

The starting salary for this post will be within the range UKP
15,210 - 18,372 (Local Government Scale 5-6), dependant upon
