Cultural Heritage: Context and Conservation
The National Center for Conservation, Restoration and Museum Sciences
Havana, Cuba
April 9-13 2001

The National Center for Conservation, Restoration and Museum
Sciences (CENCREM) under the auspices of the National Council on
Cultural Heritage calls to its 5th International Congress Cultural
Heritage: Context and Conservation to be held in its traditional
venue, The Convent of Santa Clara of Assisi located at Old Havana,
World Heritage Site.

Special Guest Speakers, Lectures, Round Tables and Debates as well
as Guided Tours to Landmarks and Museums will take place aside
papers and posters presentations. Receptions, Social Encounters and
Post event Excursions will also be organized.

Participants: Preservationists, Conservators, Art Restorers,
Historians, Archaeologists, Architects, Economists, Sociologists,
Engineers, Chemists, Biologists and other specialists from
disciplines related with the topics of the Congress will be able to
participate as speakers or observers. The inscription of
Preservation and common ground university students will also be
admitted

Presentation of Works: Summaries of proposed presentations should be
submitted in Microsoft Word 97, or Windows 2000 using 3 1/2 disks.
Other editors for compatible text may also be accepted, with an
extension not bigger than 250 words. Dead Line for reception of
proposed papers, by mail or e-mail, is up to January 31st, 2001.
Works acceptance will be notified.

Papers will be presented in format of 81/2 x11" of 30 lines to two
spaces, using Arial 12, with a total extension not bigger than 15
sheets and also in disks of 3 1/2" in Microsoft Word 97 or Windows
2000.  Time scheduled for presentations will be 20 minutes, plus 10
extra for discussions to be granted by the table, according to the
given session.

Posters must be designed inside a format of 100x 100 cm. A rectangle
of 25x10 cm will be kept in the right lower corner to place an
identification card containing order, symbol of the event, title of
the work and the author's names or authors, and of the Company or
Institution represented. The card will be given on site, just for
assembling the exhibition.

Those persons interested for active participation in the Event
should send their applications with their personal data and the
summary of their work, specifying if it is to be considered as a
paper or as a poster. Papers: their complete final texts (once
received the notification of their acceptance) should be sent in
disks of 3 1/2" by special mail, or sent by e-mail before March 1st
/ 2001. Posters: should be given directly to the Organizers on site
before April 10th.

Audiovisual Media: Papers to be sent should specify the audiovisual
devices that will be required for their exhibition:

    Projector for slides / 35 mm
    Video (VCR) / VHS-NTSC 3.58
    Backlit projector
    Computer with Power Point

In all the cases, the use of these means or any other AV
presentation must also fit into the time frame assigned for the
exhibition.

Admission Fees: The inscription fee for all Professional
participants will be $100.00 USD. The price includes all activities
officially scheduled, the book of summaries, and the book of reports
that will be published later on to the Event. Companion persons will
pay $85.00 USD for attending Opening / Enclosure ceremonies,
Technical visits and main social events officially announced for
them. Students will pay $50.00 USD, and they should present the
document that credits them as such to participate in all activities
officially scheduled. Cuban national participants will pay the same
inscription quota, in National Currency.

Official Languages: Lectures, posters and papers will be written or
delivered in Spanish and English.

    Procedures and techniques to classify and to categorize Cultural
