Subject: Open house at North Bennet Street School
The public is cordially invited to attend the annual Open House of North Bennet Street School in Boston, Friday, November 3, 2000, 10am-2pm and Saturday, Nov.4, 2000, 10am-3pm. Located in Boston's historic North End, North Bennet Street school offers full-time training in fine hand craftsmanship in eight disciplines: Bookbinding, Cabinet and Furniture Making, Carpentry, Preservation Carpentry, Jewelry Making and Repair, Locksmithing, Piano Technology, and Violin Making and Restoration. In addition to the full-time offerings, workshops are offered weekends and evenings. The school models classes after traditional apprenticeship training and is one of the few institutions nationwide devoted exclusively to training in fine hand craftsmanship. Visitors will observe work in progress and have the opportunity to talk directly with students and instructors. This behind-the-scenes look will interest hobbyists, professionals in the trades, as well as those exploring new career options. The event provides the ideal opportunity for those interested in commissioning custom work to meet established and emerging artisans. North Bennet Street School is located at 39 North Bennet Street in the North End of Boston and can be reached by public transportation. Parking is available at local garages.
