Subject: Position at Institute of Nautical Archaeology
Director of Conservation INA-Egypt Conservator wanted by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology - Egypt to direct conservation in the Alexandria Conservation Laboratory for Submerged Antiquities. A graduate degree in conservation and practical experience required. The position involves performance and supervision of ongoing work in the laboratory and in the field, and long-term conservation planning for wet materials from shipwreck excavations. The conservator will also assist in training and in logistical planning for fieldwork. Necessary skills include: English fluency, organizational skills, physical ability to dive and darkroom skills. Arabic fluency is helpful, but not critical. The salary is $25K/year plus expatriate health and diving insurance (insurance coverage in Egypt). Starting date for the position is February 1, 2001.
