The next meeting of The Textile Conservation Group will be Tuesday, October 10, 2000 at NY School of Interior Design 170 East 70th Street NYC, Seminar Room B 6:00pm Elizabeth Eubanks will present: A Master's Project, A Data Set ... and Variable Results Intrigued by an award-winning study that used non-destructive methods to identify synthetic dyes on the fiber via near-infrared spectroscopy, Elizabeth set out to test the process for identifying natural dyes for her Master's thesis. What followed was not always "according to the plan." She will discuss the problems she encountered with her research and how she achieved workable results, even with little technical training in natural dyeing and spectroscopy. This presentation will interest everyone concerned with the realities of conservation research as well as dye analysis techniques. Elizabeth Eubanks received her MS from University of Rhode Island in 1999 and currently works in the Anthropology Department at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.
