EUAN and EVA at the ICA Congress, Seville

Two international projects of relevance to the archive community
will be presented during the upcoming ICA Congress at Seville: EUAN,
the European Union Archive Network and EVA the European Visual
Archive. Both projects are funded by European Commission under the
INFO2000 programme.

Thursday 21 September
Bahia room at the Congress Centre, Seville
16:00 - 17:00 and 17:00 - 18:00

EUAN: European Union Archive Network
EVA: European Visual Archive

EUAN the European Archive Network project: The EUAN project is
investigating how to give the European citizen access to finding aid
information in the national archives of other European countries,
crossing barriers of geography, of record keeping tradition, of
description and of language. Its archival objectives are to devise
common descriptive rules, based on ISAD, and its technical
objectives are to devise means of linking descriptive information
from different computer systems. It is constructing a prototype to
test look and feel across different language and record systems,
which will incorporate the latest edition of the dictionary of
terminology, developed by the ICA group. For further information on
the EUAN project, see: <URL:http://www.euan.org>

EVA the European visual Archives project: The EVA project
concentrates one specific type of archival source: the photograph.
It looks at user requirements, copyright issues and the archival
context, and is producing guidelines on digitisation and relevant
metadata standards. In the framework of the EVA project a Web based
information system is being developed so that the "European Citizen"
can gain access to the rich visual sources available in the City
archives of Antwerp and London. The presentation at Seville will
report one results so far, give an update on the current state of
the project, and suggest ways of extending the outcomes of the
project to other archives in the future. For more information on the
EVA project, see: <URL:http://www.eva-eu.org>.
