Cleaning earthenware

From: Jenny Charles <jcharles>
Date: Sunday, September 3, 2000
I used to be a full time studio potter and am currently studying to
be a freelance conservator of ceramics (and related materials ) at
West Dean College, in Chichester, England. For my final
dissertation, I am investigated the problems associated with the
cleaning and bonding of Creamware, pearlware and in fact white
earthenwares in general. My aim is to find a more satisfactory
cleaning regime. To this end, I want to gather as much information
as possible about other people's experience of this type of ceramic
body. This is so I have a broader picture of the problems that have
been encountered so that I can devise some tests to be carried out
later in the year. Any information or thoughts will be most welcome,
either from direct or indirect experience, or even some suggestions.

Jenny
