Glass bookshelves

Biblioteca Mayor is the Major University Library in Cordoba,
Argentina. The Jesuits Collection (3000 books, in their original
parchment bindings) is, in fact, the heart of the library and a
relevant part of the National Cultural Heritage.

This collection is going to be moved to another area in the same
historical building, to make part of some kind of Museum, intended
to recreate the university atmosphere during the jesuits times (17th
century)

The architects in charge of the project are planning to use glass
(10mm thick) for the 200 meters shelves, on an aluminium structure.
They consider that steel shelves will not be suitable for that room,
and we don't recommend wood.

We are interested in the solutions taken by other institutions and
we would also be very grateful to hear of any recently published
information on the subject.
