Course in Conservation and repair of stone masonry September 5-8, 2000 West Dean College There are still some places available on this important course providing an overview of the complex issues involved in the conservation and repair of stone masonry. Included are practical exercises using the ruinette, building stone identification and characterisation, recognition and diagnosis of decay, assessment of condition, repair options and techniques, cleaning, surface treatments and specification. A mix of lectures, demonstrations, case studies and practical exercises. Course Leader: John Ashurst, former Principal Architect with English Heritage, former Professor of Building Conservation at Bournemouth University and joint author of the seminal book series Practical Building Conservation, Architectural Consultant in Historic Building Repair and Construction. Principal Tutor: Colin Burns, a Master Mason, former English Heritage Senior Training Office at Fort Brockhurst Building Conservation Training Centre, with extensive practical experience of the conservation of historic masonry.
