Applications are invited for the post of assistant conservator for
the Scottish Architects' Papers Preservation Project within the
Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of
Scotland. The project aims to catalogue and conserve collections of
architects' papers for the National Monuments Record of Scotland and
is sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by the Royal
Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

RCAHMS is a public body that compiles and maintains the national
collection of architectural and archaeological archives of Scotland
in the NMRS. RCAHMS provides a challenging and stimulating working
environment, committed to public accessibility and service.

This appointment will be part-time (22.5 hours per week, Wednesday
to Friday) contracted for 14 months.  Starting salary will depend on
qualifications and experience and will be performance related.

The successful candidate should have a qualification in either the
conservation of works of art on paper or the conservation of
archives. Communications skills are essential, both orally and in
writing. Experience of working within an archive, an interest in
Scottish architectural history, keyboard skills and some familiarity
with information technology are advantageous. Applications from
newly-qualified candidates are welcome.

This post will assist the senior conservator and conservator with
the conservation and re-housing of very large collections of
architectural drawings, working to very tight deadlines. Some of the
work is likely to take place in Aberdeen for which travel and
subsistence expenses will be paid.
