Architectural models

A client of mine has several architectural models made mainly of
paper. She would like to know how to best preserve them, keeping in
mind the tropical climate of Mumbai, India. Someone has suggested
applying shellac, which I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with. Any
suggestions?
