Conservation and Restoration of Furniture Kittochside Farm House Contract Post between the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and National Museums of Scotland (NMS) We are seeking to appoint a conservator who will take responsibility for conservation of furniture and fittings from Wester Kittochside Farmhouse. The contents of the house when it was acquired by the NTS have been in store for several years while the building is structurally refurbished, and are now to be prepared for re-display in 2001. The furniture is currently stored on the NMS site at Granton, Edinburgh and the conservation work will be undertaken there under the supervision of the NMS furniture conservator. This is a joint project between the NMS and the NTS, as part of the Museum of Country Life at Wester Kittochside, East Kilbride. The conservator will be involved directly in installations at the farmhouse and other aspects of conservation support which become necessary to achieve the project. Candidates should normally be trained conservators, preferably specialising in furniture or in more general conservation of historic artefacts but with proven furniture conservation experience. However applicants with directly relevant experience and proven craft skills may also be considered. A driving licence is essential. The post will be a casual contract administered by the NMS and based at Granton. The post will be Grade 5, with a salary between UKP12,330 and 15,119 (pro rata) depending on qualifications and experience. The post will be initially for 6 months with the possibility of extension to 12 months.
