Tutor: Caroline Bendix, freelance library conservator, advisor to
the National Trust and consultant to English Heritage.

A one-day course aimed at librarians and curators. The day will
concentrate on book-related topics but will embrace archive-related
problems as well. Subjects covered will include book structures,
environmental factors and their control, storage and display,
protective measures, safe handling and guidelines for readers, what
damages books, the importance of preventive conservation, and basic
salvage requirements. Delegates will be encouraged to discuss and
handle objects during the day.

Cost: UKP75. The course is designed for a maximum of 30 people, so
please apply early to ensure a place. Confirmation of booking will
only be made on receipt of payment. Cheques made payable to the
Institute of Paper Conservation.
