Introduction to Papermaking

Course Overview: Participants will gain an overall knowledge of
basic papermaking techniques including: pulp preparation, sheet
formation, and drying methods. We will also study various
watermarking techniques.

Cost of class: $40.00. Includes lunch and materials. Please indicate
any special dietary needs.

Note: Space in each class is limited to 10 people. Reservations will
be accepted on a first come-first served basis. Please indicate your
first and second choices for workshop dates on the reservation form.

Directions to the Mountain House: located 46 miles south from
Columbus on Rt.23.

>From Rt. 23 South- Take the first Chillicothe Bridge Street exit.
Turn Right onto Bridge St. and proceed through several lights, about
5 miles. Turn Right onto Main Street (There will be a Speedway
station on the corner). Proceed on Main Street through about 5
lights--you will be headed toward Carlisle Hill. Make sure you are
in the left lane and proceed up Carlisle Hill. Turn Right on
Highland Ave and continue another 1/4 mile until you see the
Mountain House- #8 Highland. It is a red brick 1840's home on the
corner of Highland and West Main St. Please call 740-774-1236 if you
become lost.

Dard Hunter III is the owner of Dard Hunter Studios--a Chillicothe
based, mail order business that distributes a line of decorative and
functional items based on the American Arts and Crafts Movement.
Growing up in the Mountain House, where his father and grandfather
conducted their research on the history of papermaking has given him
a unique access to many materials on the subject that have remained
in the family's possession. He has been making paper at that site
for the past five years.

Eileen Wallace holds an MLS and an MFA in Books Arts from the
University of Alabama and is a co-director of the Paper & Book
Intensive. She is currently a studio artist and frequent workshop
instructor. Eileen was previously the publications designer for
Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina where she was
also an Artist-in-Residence.
