Subject: Workshop on health and safety
The Preservation Section of the Society of American Archivists would like to recommend the workshop described below to subscribers of this list serv. It will be taught as a pre-conference workshop to our annual meeting in Denver, Colorado. HAZCOM for Archivists Workshop #0016 August 28, 2000 Fee: $215; SAA Members, $169 Continuing Education Units: .75 Instructor: Monona Rossol This workshop will be of interest to archivists whose environment includes chemical products from glues to fumigants; molds or dust from paper and leather; poor ventilation; fungus, bacteria, carcinogens and toxic substances; dyes, packaging chemicals and other irritants. The workshop will cover all of the information required by OSHA's hazard communication (HAZCOM) regulation as it applies to archival work. The participants will gain insight into basic concepts of archival health and safety and develop transferrable strategies to prevent hazards in the workplace. At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to pass a standard HAZCOM proficiency test, to recognize workplace hazards and to implement strategies that will make the workplace safe.
