We are looking for a conservation technician to join a team of 6 in
the Preservation Section of the London Metropolitan Archive, the
largest local authority archive in the country, with 32 miles of
archives and books and 56 staff. LMA is also responsible for the
management of Keats House in Hampstead. The post is a nine month
contract, full or part time. The period of employment will be
extended pro rata for part time work.

The project consists of basic treatment and re-packaging a series of
engineering plans from the eight commissions of sewers which
administered London's drainage from 1554. The plans for treatment
date from 1735 to 1855 and are hand drawn by the Engineers to the
Commission. The work will be carried out by a conservation assistant
and a conservation technician.

A good standard of literacy and numeracy, preferable to GCSE level is
required. The conservation technician should hold, or be working
towards, a recognised qualification in the field of paper
conservation. You should be able to work in dusty conditions, to
climb ladders and to handle heavy archives with care.
