SOLINET, Inc., The Southeastern Library Network, is pleased to
introduce the Summer 2000 preservation workshop schedule.

Beating the Critter Jitters: Integrated Pest Management

    This workshop will be held Thursday, August 17, at the
    University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY from 9am - 4pm.

    This full-day session explains and assesses the available
    strategies for preventing and combating pest problems.
    Participants will learn to identify common pests, recognize the
    damage various pests cause to library and archival materials,
    and develop strategies for implementing an integrated pest
    management program of monitoring and control. The instructor is
    Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director Chicora Foundation.

    Cost for SOLINET Full members is $95 ($85 early bird, $120 late
    registration); SOLINET Associate users, $105 ($95 early bird,
    $130 late registration); Affiliate (non-members) $135 ($125
    early bird, $160 late registration).

    Note: Registration for To Fume of Not to Fume and Critter
    Jitters and receive a $20 discount. Total cost for both sessions
    are as follows: $145 Full members; $155 Associate Users; $215
    Affiliate/non-members. Early bird discounts or late fees may
    apply. Any institution within Kentucky qualifies for the member
    rate.

To Fume or Not to Fume

    This workshop will be held Friday, August 18, at the University
    of Kentucky, Lexington, KY from 9am - 12pm.

    This half day workshop will provide a general introduction to
    fumigation, including common chemical fumigation techniques and
    their impact of chemical fumigation on collections, pests, and
    people. It will also provide good reasons to avoid chemical
    fumigation and give alternatives including: creating temporary
    fumigation chambers using barrier films, use of non-toxic
    fumigants, establishing protocols for different insects, finding
    pest control companies and other firms to help, and using baits
    and traps. Instructor is Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director, Chicora
    Foundation.

    Cost for SOLINET Full members is $70 ($60 early bird, $95 late
    registration); SOLINET Associate users, $80 ($70 early bird,
    $105 late registration); Affiliate (non-members) $100 ($90 early
    bird, $125 late registration). Any institution within Kentucky
    qualifies for the member rate.

Hurricane Preparedness: Making Sure Your Institution Survives the
Big One

    This workshop is scheduled for, Thursday, August 24, 2000 at the
    University of Southern Mississippi-Gulf Coast, Long Beach, MS
    from 9 am - 4 pm.

    Learn about steps that can be taken before a storm hits that can
    increase an institution's chances for minimizing damage; and
    steps that can be taken to minimize loss after a storm. This one
    and a half day workshop focuses on the nature of hurricanes,
    general issues in developing a disaster plan, making your
    institution storm-proof, activities before, during and after the
    storm, and sources of assistance. Instructor for this session is
    Dr. Michael Trinkley, Director of Chicora Foundation.

    Cost for SOLINET Full members is $95 ($85 early bird, $120 late
    registration); SOLINET Associate users, $105 ($95 early bird,
    $130 late registration); Affiliate (non-members) $135 ($125
    early bird, $160 late registration). Any institution within
    Mississippi qualifies for the member rate.

Preservation Management of Audiovisual Collections

    This one-day session will be held Monday, September 25, 2000 at
    the Historic New Orleans Collection, New Orleans, LA. from 9am -
    4pm.

    This session will concentrate on the principles and practices of
    managing equipment-dependent magnetic media, motion picture
    film, and mechanical sound recording collections. Topics
    include: preservation activities for sight and sound recordings,
    appraisal considerations, and guidelines for care, handling and
    storage. Attendees are invited to bring in equipment and/or
    recording media for discussion and identification during the
    session. Instructor of the session is Alan Lewis, Audiovisual
    Preservation Expert in the Special Media Archives Services
    Division, National Archives and Records Administration.

    Cost for SOLINET Full members is $95 ($85 early bird, $120 late
