Mounted horse head

From: Sue Valis <suev>

Would anyone have experience with the conservation of split skin of
a mounted horse's head which is stretched over a plaster substrate.
The specimen had undergone an insect treatment with ethylene oxide
approximately 10 years ago, which has caused the skin to split in
several places (it is believed that the treatment was carried out
under elevated temperature). The remainder of the skin appears
brittle. The specimen needs to be treated for display purposes and
any suggestions for its conservation, including material and
methods, would be greatly appreciated.
