ALCTS, PARS, Photographic and Recording Media Discussion Group, McCormick Place S404b Saturday, July 8, 2000 4:30-5:30 p.m. This Discussion Group meeting will include two topics: 1. "Digitizing Photographic Collections: the Short and Long of It" Helena Zinkham, Head, Technical Services, with technical assistance from Kit Arrington, Digital Conversion Specialist, Prints and Photographs Division, Library of Congress will describe the production steps for scanning two kinds of photographs: negatives and panoramic prints. The preservation considerations will be highlighted, from a custodial viewpoint. Image navigation techniques and linkages between images and online records will also be covered. Bring your questions. 2. "Barcoding Non-Book Collections: A Poll of Practices" Debra McKern, Chief of Binding and Collections Care Division and Acting Chief of the Prints and Photographs Division, will lead a discussion about working with vendors to create barcoding and labeling options for various types of media.
