Lectureship/readership in site conservation and management
University College London

Applications are invited for the position of a
Lectureship/Readership at the Institute of Archaeology, University
College London, to replace Dr Nicholas Stanley-Price who has been
appointed Director General of ICCROM.

The Institute is seeking to maintain its involvement in site
conservation and site management studies and to further develop its
international perspective in these areas. The successful applicant
should have experience in at least heritage management, site
presentation and interpretation, site conservation, and heritage
education. S/he will take charge of the co-ordination and much of
the teaching of the new Master's "Managing Archaeological Sites", a
postgraduate degree course which examines why certain endangered
sites are selected for preservation, and how they can be
successfully managed and conserved to preserve their significance.
The appointee will also be expected to contribute to teaching
specialisms (such as Africa, Latin America, India, art, law etc),
within some undergraduate or other Master's courses. Past
experience of site preservation and site conservation of a complex
site would be an advantage (together with enthusiasm to join in a
new project).

Salary will be within the scale UKP19,372-UKP40,695 per annum
inclusive of London Allowance. It is expected that shortlisted
applicants will be interviewed on 28 June 2000; they will be invited
to make brief presentations in the morning concerning their research
interests, preceding formal interview by the Selection Committee in
the afternoon. It is hoped that the appointee will be able to take
up the position in time for the beginning of the next academic year
2000/2001.

Applications with full c.v., list of publications and the names of
three referees, should be submitted not later than closing date of
16 June 2000 to the
