Paper stored in vacuum

From: Ercole Gialdi <rgi>

Has anyone carried out studied on the ageing of printed paper when
conserved under vacuum? We developed an economic system to put under
vacuum newspapers, magazines and contemporary printed paper in
general. The level of vacuum can be varied from 1000 to 20 mbar
(i.e. 0 to 95%) the remaining air is substituted with dry nitrogen.
The enclosures don't contain any chlorine. By this way the space
occupied by the material decreases drastically, the newspapers have
the consistency of bound material and can be stored vertically and
are sheltered from dust, humidity, parasites, fungi and moulds.
